Coming off a year where he was named the Mountain West Defensive Player of the Year, Vander Esch saw his draft stock soar, and declared for the draft relatively early. An exceptional tackler, his vision and instinct allow him to quickly see what gap to attack, but is patient enough to allow the play to develop and rarely miss-diagnoses plays. Also solid in coverage, and has a good backstep and is fairly rangy in coverage. As a superb run stopper, he looks like an ideal 3-4 ILB that can maintain the interior gaps, but is athletic enough to play any linebacker position.
