Round 1 | Round 2
2020 NFL Mock Draft Round 1
1) New York Jets – Trevor Lawrence QB, Clemson 6’6″ 220 lbs
The Jets look like the worst team in the NFL right now. They could easily select Lawrence & trade Sam Darnold for a few picks. Lawrence & Clemson are off to a terrific start & have a good chance of running the board. He’s a XLNT team leader, poised in the pocket, powerful arm & has been a big time playmaker his whole career. The only down side is I heard yesterday that if they don’t win the National Championship he may return to Clemson for another year. I think that may be a smoke screen so he doesn’t have to play for the Jets & HC Gase who could possibly make him a bust.
2) New York Giants – Ja’Marr Chase WR, LSU 6’1″ 200 lbs
Chase was the top WR in the nation last year & #2 was way behind. He’s opted out for 2020. The G-men need to really get QB Jones a true #1 WR if he’s going to develop into the QB they need.
3) Jacksonville Jaguars – Justin Fields QB, Ohio St. 6’3″ 223 lbs
The Jags need a new QB besides Minshew who is playing decent. Fields is having a slow start just playing their 1st game last Saturday. He needs to have a big season if the Buckeyes are going make the College Football Playoff. They’re going to roll over their oposition & run up the score to guarantee high ratings. Had 41 TD passes in 2019 with only 3 interceptions.
4) Atlanta Falcons – Gregory Rousseau Edge, Miami 6’6″ 260 lb
He’s opted out for the 2020 season, but really burst onto the scene in 2019 as a RFR with 54 tackles, 15.5 sacks & 2 forced fumbles. Has an XLNT skill set & is just oozing with upside. The Falcons don’t have much on the Edge so this is a big upgrade.
5) Miami Dolphins (from hou) – Penei Sewell OT, Oregon 6’6″ 325 lbs
I think this might be the best prospect in this draft. This player is basically All World. In 2019 he was the 1st Oregon Duck to win the Outland Trophy. He was AP PAC-12 co-player of the year, PFF Pac-12 player of the year, !st team All America & this list just keeps on going. Allowed 1 sack in last 1376 snaps over 2 years. In 2018 he allowed 7 QB pressures & 2 hurries & he was only a Freshman. I’ve only graded out 3 other OT’s like this player. Joe Thomas out of Wisconsin, Orlando Pace out of Ohio St. & Anthony Munoz from USC.
6) Minnesota Vikings – Justyn Ross WR, Clemson 6’4″ 210 lbs
Ross has also opted out of 2020. He could return to Clemson especially if Lawrence does, But if the NFL Advisory Coimmittee gives him a 1st round grade & maybe top 10 I think he’ll come out. The Vikes could use another explosive WR.
7) Cincinnatti Bengals – Alex Leatherwood OT/G/C, Alabama 6’6″ 322 lbs
The Bengals need many upgrades but protection for face of the franchise QB Joe Burrow is top priority. This is his 3rd year starting for the Tide & could be a 1st team All America.
8) Dallas Cowboys – Christian Barmore DT, Alabama 6’5″ 310 lbs
The Cowboys have a lot of holes to fill so they may as well start right up front & in the middle of their DL. This is the 2021 edition of the Tides next interior defensive lineman to be an All America.
9) Washington Football Team – Walker Little OT, Stanford 6’7″ 313 lbs
This pick has to be OT or WR. Little is the best of both positions available for this selection. They have to get who’s ever under center better protection.
10) Los Angeles Chargers – Carlos Basham EDGE, Wake Forest 6’5″ 275 lbs
The Chargers aren’t getting much pressure on the QB in 2020. He started the season with 31 career tackles for loss & 15.5 career sacks. XLNT 1st step speed off the edge so he can get into backfield & cause havoc, get sacks & tackles for loss.
11) New England Patriots – Kyle Trask QB, Florida 6’5″ 239 lbs
Trask is off to a red hot start in 2020. Had 13 td passes in 1st 3 games. Has the size, strength & strong arm to make all the NFL throws. Is being prepared for the NFL by HC Dan Mullen also a very good QB guru. The Gators got hit by COVID & couldn’t play LSU last Saturday. That game will be made up on a open date. HC Bill Belichick has to make a QB move & has showed a preference for Gator players in the past.
12) Denver Broncos – Micah Parsons ILB/OLB, Penn St. 6’3″ 245 lbs
Here’s a killer LB in the Nittany Lion tradition. He’s opted out for the season. In 2019 had 109 tackles, 5 sacks, 4 forced fumbles & 5 passes defended. Has a nose for the football & makes clutch plays at the right time for his team. GM Elway will sprint to the podium if he’s available.
13) Carolina Panthers – Sam Cosmi OT, Texas 6’7″ 305 lbs
A bit raw & needs to get into a NFL strength & conditioning program. Has a good skill set. Needs to gain some weight & muscle. Long & athletic with a nice kick slide. Opens up nice running lanes & is solid in pass protection.
14) Miami Dolphins – DeVonta Smith WR/SWR, Alabama 6’1″ 175 lbs
Here’s a speed ball WR who can also line up in the slot. Will complement WR Parker very well. Also played 2 years with QB Tua in Tuscaloosa. Is getting a lot more targets with Jerry Jeudy & Henry Ruggs playing in the NFL.
15) Las Vegas Raiders – Marvin Wilson DT, Florida St. 6’5″ 317 lbs
HC Gruden needs a bull on the interior of his DL & he gets that here. Can stuff the run game & put lots of pressure from the interior on opposing QB. Has good speed for a big man & is also very agile & athletic.
16) Detroit Lions – Dylan Moses ILB/OLB, Alabama 6’3″ 235 lbs
Is off to a solid start in 2020. Tore his ACL & didn’t play in 2019. In 2018 he produced 86 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, 3 sacks & 1 forced fumble. Should be a 1st team All America.
17) San Francisco 49’ers – Patrick Surtain CB, Alabama 6’2″ 203 lbs
Big CB with lots of speed & agility. Has good hip movement which allows him to pick up the ball before WR sees it. Rare Freshman DB to see the field under HC Nick Saban. In 2019 he had 42 tackles, 2 interceptions, 3 forced fumbles & 8 passes broken up. Good bloodlines being the son of Patrick Surtain former Dolphin CB & 3 time pro bowler.
18) New Orleans Saints – Trey Lance QB, North Dakota St. 6’3″ 221 lbs
Here’s a true 1 year wonder! In 2019 he hit on 67% of his passes for 2786 yards, 28 touchdowns & ZERO interceptions. Has a quality skill set with all the physical tools. His problem is that North Dakota St. quit football in 2020 due to COVID so scouts only have 1 year of good tape on him.
19) Philadelphia Eagles – Jaylen Mayfield OT, Michigan 6’5″ 319 lbs
Mayfield had an XLNT season for a RFR. Awesome opening up holes for the ground game & is a quality pass protector. Good footwork & can use his hands & feet at the same time to stave off pass rushers. He’s only a RSO & being that Wolverine OL usually play out their elgibility I think there’s a chance he could go back and come out in 2022 when could be the top OT & go in the top 10 picks.
20) Indianapolis Colts – Kyle Pitts TE, Florida 6’6″ 240 lbs
This player could be Philip Rivers new best friend. He’s not a great blocker but they aren’t drafting him to block he’s offf to a sensational start in 2020. Possesses strong hands & good moves. Has the speed to really run the seam. Is too big for safeties to bring down & too fast for linebackers to cover. Nice mismatch weapon in the red zone or just anywhere on the field.
21) Cleveland Browns – Jaylen Waddle SWR/WR, Alabama 5’10” 182 lbs
The Brownies just lost OBJ for the year & may not want him back next year so a replacement is needed. This guy has some serious speed & moves. An absolute blur motoring through the secondary. Hurt his ankle last Saturday & may miss the rest of the year. But he should still go in round 1 if he recovers well.
22) Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Trey Smith OT/G, Tennessee 6’6″ 325 lbs
Solid offensive lineman during his career on Rocky Top. An absolute bull in the rush game and solid in pass protection. His only drawback is he had blood clots 2 years ago but that seems to have cleared up. The Bucs need to get Tom Terrific better protection & he can play 2 positions of need.
23) Jacksonville Jaguars (from lar) – Shaun Wade CB/NCB, Ohio St. 6’1″ 194 lbs
He has had 2 solid seasons in the Buckeye secondary & has taken over Jeff Okudah’s spot. Has good speed to not allow separation & is a solid tackler in the open field. Decent ball hawk with 5 interceptions last 2 seasons.
24) Buffalo Bills – Deonte Brown G, Alabama 6’4″ 338 lbs
Big, strong & aggressive offensive lineman who can open up huge holes for the ground game which is vital to the Tides offense. Is a good pass protector. Plays with a double nasty streak & likes to get physical with defensive lineman. I think he’s the best guard in this draft. Could have gone in round 1 this year if he’d come out. His only ding is he’s been suspended twice & he’ll have to explain that at Indy.
25) Chicago Bears – Rashod Bateman WR, Minnesota 6’2″ 210 lbs
The Big 10 just started play so no stats on him yet. In the previous 2 seasons he produced 111 receptions for 1923 yards & 17 touchdowns. Also had 7 100 yard games.
26) Arizona Cardinals – Caleb Farley CB, Virginia Tech 6’2″ 207 lbs
The Cards need a CB they can pair with Patrick Peterson. Big CB with enough speed to cover WR without allowing separation. Physical tackler. Plays tight vested with WR’s. Likes tio live in WR’s jersey.
27) Baltimore Ravens – Creed Humphrey C/G, Oklahoma 6’5″ 316 lbs
The Ravens need an anchor in the middle of their offensive line. Can also play Guard if needed & while waiting his chance at Center. Didn’t allow a sack in 799 snaps in 2019.
28) Tennessee Titans – Rondale Moore SWR/WR/PR, Purdue 5’9″ 180 lbs
The Titans could use a smaller faster receiver to pair with sophmore sensation A.J. Brown who’s looking like an early pro bowler. This player has a lot of speed to mix with his darting & shifty moves. Could help out on special teams too as returner, but has to be careful not to get broken.
29) New York Jets (from sea) – Travis Etienne RB, Clemson 5’10” 200 lbs
If he was 15 lbs bigger he would go a lot earlier. The Jets got rid of Bell to the Chiefs so a replacement is needed. The key here is he & Trevor Lawrence played their whole college careers together & know each other very well.
30) Kansas City Chiefs – Zaven Collins OLB/EDGE, Tulsa 6’4″ 260 lbs
This player is right up HC Andy Reids alley. In his 1st game this year against Oklahoma he had 2 sacks & 6 solo tackles & helped out on numerouis others as well. Face to face tackler who is aggressive off the EDGE too. Keep an eye on this player who could stack up big numbers this season & go a lot earlier.
31) Green Bay Packers – Chris Olave WR, Ohio St. 6’1″ 185 lbs
Fast WR who runs good routes & has solid hands. He could have a coming out party this year along with his QB Justin Fields. This guy is explosive & could be a household name by the end of the season.
32) Pittsburgh Steelers – Trey Hill C/G, Georgia 6’4″ 330 lbs
Massive Center who can also play Guard quite effectively. Has paved the way for numerous RB’s at Georgia & opened up big holes for the rush game. Another who could move to Guard while waiting his chance at Center. I think he has Steeler written all over him. Makes a good wall for pass protection also. If Big Ben can stay healthy the Steelers look tough to beat.
