2020 NFL Mock Draft Round 1
1) Jacksonville Jaguars – Trevor Lawrence QB, Clemson 6’6″ 220 lbs
With Lawrence Clemson will be in the national championship mix again. In 2019 he hit on 66% of his passes for 3665 yards, 36 td’s & 8 int’s. Also had 563 rushing yards & 9 td’s. XLNT team leader with a big arm, shows good poise while in the pocket & has been a big time play maker for the last 3 seasons.
2) Miami Dolphins – Penei Sewell OT, Oregon 6’6″ 325 lbs
If the Dolphins select him it will push this years #18 overall pick Austin Jackson over to ROT & the Fish will be set at OT for the next decade barring injury. He’s the 1st Polynesian, 1st sophomore & 1st Oregon Duck to win the Outland Trophy. 2019 AP PAC-12 co-offensive player of year, PFF Pac-12 player of the year. AP 1st team All America & this list goes on & on. Has allowed one sack in the last 1376 snaps over past 2 seasons. In 2018 he only allowed 7 QB pressures & 2 hurries & he’s was only a freshman. I personally think he’s best OT prospect to come out since either Joe Thomas out of Wisconsin in 2006 or the great Orlando Pace out of Ohio St. in 1996.
3) Chicago Bears – Justin Fields QB Ohio St. 6’3″ 221 lbs
If Da Bears are picking this high that means the Mitch Trubisky experiment is over. In 2019 he hit on 67% of his passes for 3237 yards, 41 td’s & 3 int’s. Also rushed for 484 yds & 7 td’s. Can beat you with both his arm & legs.
4) Washington Redskins – Ja’Marr Chase WR, LSU 6’3″ 200 lbs
Chase was the best WR in 2019 when he had 84 receptions, 1780 yds & 20 td’s for a 20.2 avg. This player can blow the top off a defense at any time & has see ya speed to take it to the house on any touch. Is a good route runner & gets lots of yards after contact. Very elusive in the open field.
5) Cincinnati Bengals – Gregory Rousseau EDGE, Miami 6’6″ 260 lbs
The Bengals go BPA with this selection. He really burst onto the scene in 2019 as a RFR with 54 tackles, 15.5 sacks & 2 forced fumbles. Very fast 1st step to get around OT’s & into backfield where he can cause havoc & get sacks & tackles for loss. Being only a RSO in 2020 could possibly bring him back to school for 2021.
6) Carolina Panthers – Patrick Surtain II CB, Alabama 6’2″ 203 lbs
The Panthers lost #1 CB James Bradberry to FA so here’s a quality replacement. In 2019 he had 42 tackles, 2 int’s, 8 passes broken up & 3 forced fumbles. Big CB with lots of speed & agility. Has fluid hip movement to pick up ball before it gets to WR. Rare freshman DB to see the field under HC Nick Saban. He’s the #1 CB on my board. In 2018 he produced 28 tackles, 1 int & 7 passes defended. Also has dyno bloodlines being the son of Patrick Surtain former Dolphins CB & 3 time pro bowler.
7) Detroit Lions – Walker Little OT, Stanford 6’7″ 309 lbs
Looks like the Lions may not bring back OT Taylor Decker thus they will need to replace him. Outstanding in pass protection & a mauler in the ground game. Has the length & strength to go with a mean nasty streak. Likes to get physical with defensive lineman.
8) New York Giants – Justyn Ross WR, Clemson 6’4″ 210 lbs
The G-men need a big possession WR to go with their smaller/faster WR’s. In 2019 he produced 66 receptions for 865 yds & 8 td’s for a 20.7 avg. In 2018 he had 46 catches for 1000 yds & 9 td’s & a 20.2 avg.
9) Las Vegas Raiders – Micah Parsons ILB/OLB, Penn St. 6’3″ 245 lbs
Another LB in the Nittany Lion tradition. In 2019 he amassed 109 tackles, 5 sacks, 4 forced fumbles & 5 passes defended. In 2018 he started as a true freshman & had 83 tackles, 5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks & 2 forced fumbles. Has a nose for the football & makes clutch plays for the Nittany Lions defense.
10) Arizona Cardinals – Shaun Wade CB/NCB/FS, Ohio St. 6’1″ 195 lbs
In 2019 he had 25 tackles, 8 passes broken up, 1 int & 2 sacks. In 2018 he produced 31 tackles, 3 int’s, 7 passes defended & 1 forced fumble.
11) Los Angeles Chargers – Alex Leatherwood OT/G/C, Alabama 6’6″ 322 lbs
This is the best all around offensive lineman available for this draft. You can plug n play him anywhere on the OL & he’ll just as effective. For now the Chargers will put him in at LOT.
12) New York Jets – Xavier Thomas EDGE, Clemson 6’3″ 265 lbs
In the last 2 seasons he has produced 74 tackles, 18.5 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks, 4 passes broken up, 1 forced fumble & 1 fumble recovery. Has pretty much gone under the radar with Clemson’s loaded roster. Look for him to really emerge in 2020 with a monster year.
13) Cleveland Browns – Dylan Moses OLB/ILB, Alabama 6’3″ 233 lbs
The Brownies could use some help at LB after losing Joe Schobert to FA. This would be a big time upgrade. Was injured & missed 2019 season but in 2018 he had 86 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, 3 sacks, 1 forced fumble & 1 pass batted. Another player I expect to explode in 2020 with a very highly productive season.
14) Jacksonville Jaguars (from lar) – Travis Etienne RB, Clemson 5’10” 210 lbs
If the Jags can keep Fournette happy & around this player would be an awesome complement to him. In 2019 he had 1614 yards & 18 td’s for a 7.8 avg. He also had 37 receptions for 432 yards & 4 td’s. In 2018 he amassed 1658 yards & 24 td’s. Plus he had 12 catches for 78 yards & 2 td’s. Needs to add a little muscle & maintain his quality speed. The key here is that he & Trevor Lawrence have been in the Clemson program for 5 years together & played virtually every down together the last 3 seasons.
15) Miami Dolphins (from hou) – DeVonta Smith WR/SWR, Alabama 6’1″ 175 lbs
The Dolphins grab a speed ball WR to complement Parker who will have another big year with opponents defense keeping one eye on Smith at all times. In 2019 he had 68 receptions, 1256 yards & 14 td’s. In 2018 he had 42 catches, 693 yards & 6 td’s. Possesses XLNT hands & is a solid route runner. Should get a lot more targets with Jerry Jeudy & Henry Ruggs off to the NFL.
16) Philadelphia Eagles – Seth Williams WR, Auburn 6’3″ 224 lbs
The Eagles grab big, fast possession WR to go with this years #1 pick Jalen Reagor. In 2019 he produced 59 receptions, 830 yds & 8 td’s. In 2018 he had 26 catches for 534 yds & 5 td’s. Williams stats don’t reflect how effective he was. Big plays in the clutch when they needed them. Also his stats would have been bigger if he hadn’t had a freshman at QB.
17) Denver Broncos – Paulson Adebo CB, Stanford 6’1″ 190 lbs
In 2019 he had 33 tackles, 10 passes broken up & 4 int’s. In 2018 he produced 64 tackles, an eye popping 20 passes broken up & 4 int’s. Has quality cover skills & good instincts. GM Elway loves his Cardinal players.
18) New England Patriots – Jamie Newman QB, Georgia 6’4″ 230 lbs
HC Bill Belichick decides to grab a signal caller who can beat you with both his arm & his legs. He went through the transfer portal and ended up going from Wake Forest to Athens which will put a lot better players around him especially on the OL where the Dawgs have been very impressive. In 2019 he hit on 61% of his passes for 2868 yds, 26 td’s & 11 int’s. Also rushed for 464 yds & 6 td’s. In 2018 he hit on 60% of his throws for 1083 yds & 9 td’s.
19) Atlanta Falcons – Marvin Wilson DT, Florida St. 6’5″ 311 lbs
The Falcons decide to select an interior DL they can plug n play next to Grady Jarrett. In 2019 he had 44 tackles, 5 sacks, 4 passes batted & 1 forced fumble. In 2018 he produced 42 tackles, 3.5 sacks, 1 forced fumble, 2 passes batted & 4.5 tackles for loss. Possesses nice size, strength & athleticism to just toss OL aside in his pursuit of QB.
20) Tennessee Titans – Kyle Pitts TE, Florida 6’5″ 240 lbs
In 2019 he recorded 54 receptions for 649 yds & 5 td’s. He’s to fast for LB’s & to big for S’s to bring down. Can really run the seam & pick up yards after catch. Has strong hands & good speed for a TE. This is a big need for the Titans.
21) Seattle Seahawks – Jay Tufele DT, USC 6’3″ 315 lbs
Disruptive defender on the interior who really emerged in 2019. He had 42 tackles, 4.5 sacks & 1 pass batted. Outstanding vs the run & can apply pressure from the interior. In 2018 he had 23 tackles, 3 sacks, 4.5 tackles for loss & 1 blocked FG.
22) Green Bay Packers – Jaylen Waddle WR/SWR, Alabama 5’10” 182 lbs
Very fast & dangerous WR. In 2019 he produced 33 receptions, 563 yds & 6 td’s. In 2018 he produced 45 catches, 848 yds & 7 td’s. He & DeVonta Smith’s numbers will improve greatly with Henry Ruggs & Jerry Juedy off to the NFL. This guy is a blur motoring through the secondary.
23) Dallas Cowboys – Sam Cosmi OT, Texas 6’7″ 305 lbs
The Cowboys are ageing on their OL & have been having some nagging injuries there also. This would be a good local pick. He’s a bit raw & needs some good coaching & development time, but could be a major contributor in 2 years. Needs to get in a NFL strength & conditioning program. Very good in pass protection & solid in the ground game. Seems like a smooth glider showing length & has a nice kick slide.
24) Buffalo Bills – Deonte Brown G, Alabama 6’4″ 338 lbs
Very powerful offensive lineman who can open up huge holes for the rush game which is very vital to the Tide’s offense. He also did a great job protecting QB Tua. This player has a massive nasty streak & likes to get physical with DL. Best G available in this draft. I think he’s going to be an early pro bowler. Would have been a 1st round pick if he would have come out this year. His only ding is he’s been suspended twice which he will have to explain next year at Indy.
25) Minnesota Vikings – Andre Cisco FS/SS, Syracuse 6′ 203 lbs
Talk about a killer ball hawk last 2 seasons he’s amassed 125 tackles, 12 int’s, 23 passes broken up & 1 forced fumble. Very Instinctive FS with the nose of a grizzly for the football. Definitely not afraid to come onto tackle box and lay out some hard hits.
26) Pittsburgh Steelers – Rashod Bateman WR, Minnesota 6’2″ 210 lbs
Has caught at least 1 pass in all 26 games he’s played in last 2 seasons. Also last 2 seasons he’s produced 111 receptions, 1923 yds & 17 td’s. In 2019 he had seven 100 yd games. With former #1 WR Tyler Johnson off to the NFL look for him to get a lot more targets in 2020. His numbers could really accelerate.
27) Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Trey Smith G/OT, Tennessee 6’6″ 325 lbs
The Bucs continue to bolster Tom Terrific’s pass protection. He’s an absolute bull in the rush game & steady in pass protection. Dominates at the point of attack. 3 year starter for the Vols. His only drawback is when he was diagnosed with blood clots 2 years ago. But that seems to have cleared up.
28) Indianapolis Colts – Carlos Basham Jr. EDGE/DE, Wake Forest 6’5″ 275 lbs
Starts senior season with 31 career tackles for loss & 15.5 career sacks.Possesses XLNT 1st step speed & quickness off EDGE.Could develop more pass rush moves. Very durable player with a big motor who played 900 snaps in 2019.
29) San Francisco 49’ers – Israel Mukuamu CB/S, South Carolina 6’4″ 205 lbs
This is the player the Niners need to give to future HOF’er Richard Sherman & let him put him under his wing to help him to develop into his replacement. In 2019 he had 59 tackles, 4 int’s, 9 passes broken up. A big, tall, lanky & rangy CB who could also help out at Safety if needed. Has a Rodan wing span w/ long arms to swat passes out of the way.. Would also be killer on special teams for blocking FG’s, EP’s & punts.
30) Baltimore Ravens – Quincy Roche EDGE, MIami 6’4″ 239 lbs
Roche hit the transfer portal from Temple where he had 3 very productive years to South Beach where he will team with Gregory Rousseau to form the top EDGE rushing combo in college football. Has produced 3 year totals of 137 tackles, 39.5 tackles for loss (196 yds), 26 sacks (163 yds), 7 passes defended, 6 forced fumbles, 5 fumble recoveries & 3 blocked passes.
31) New Orleans Saints – Trey Lance QB, North Dakota St. 6’3″ 221 lbs
A true one year wonder! In 2019 he completed 67% of his passes for 2786 yds with ZERO int’s & 28 td’s. The Saints have to take a shot at someone to replace future HOF’er Drew Brees & they need to do it soon. He has a high end skill set with all the physical tools. Would be nice if he could produce more awesome tape for scouts to evaluate in 2020.
32) Kansas City Chiefs – Jalen Mayfield OT, Michigan 6’5″ 319 lbs
This player had an outstanding season in 2019 for a RFR. Solid in the rush game & a quality pass protector. He will only be a RSO in 2020 & Wolverine OL have a habit of sticking around Ann Arbor for their duration. I think there’s a good chance he’ll stay there & come out in 2022 after his RJR season. Then he would be almost guaranteed barring injury of going in the top 10 & be the 1st OT off the board. But for now he’s available & could go earlier if he chooses to leave.
