2021 NFL Mock Draft Round 1

1) Jacksonville Jaguars – Trevor Lawrence QB, Clemson 6’6″ 220 lbs
Nothing has changed here & nothing is going to change. Lawrence is the cream of the crop this year. HC Urban Meyer has been quite busy in FA trying to get quality players to surround him with & build a solid foundation.

2) New York Jets – Zach Wilson QB, BYU 6’3″ 210 lbs
As of this writing, Sam Darnold is still with the team. Nobody knows what they’re going to do & their not revealing their plan. Seattle & San Francisco look like good possibilities being that he’s from the west coast. Wilson had a great year in 2020 leading BYU to high rankings & national prominence. Has the arm to make all the NFL throws. Also has a great set of wheels which enables him to motor around the field & stretch plays. Can beat you with both his arm & legs. Smart kid too. Makes good decisions with the football.

3) Miami Dolphins (from hou) – Ja’Marr Chase WR, LSU 6’1″ 200 lbs
The Phish have a tough decision to make. It’s Chase, Sewell or Smith. They acquired Will Fuller off FA but he would fit in best in the slot. They would have a good WR room with Fuller & Parker but they could have an elite WR room w/Chase, Parker & Fuller.

4) Atlanta Falcons – Justin Fields QB, Ohio St. 6’3″ 224 lbs
New HC Arthur Smith wants to go with Matty Ice for at least 2021. I think they should take him to start his development for the NFL. He could sit with the clipboard for a year or 2 then be ready to take over the offense. I personally think he’s a better prospect than Wilson. He’s played in a lot more big games than Wilson, won 2 Big 10 Titles & been in the national playoff twice.

5) Cincinnati Bengals – Penei Sewell OT, Oregon 6’6″ 325 lbs
As I’ve said before I think he’s the best prospect in this draft. He’s also the safest pick. No injuries & it would be a shock if he went bust. Ever since QB Burrow went down he’s been the Bengals main target for this draft. Allowed 1 sack in over 1400 snaps his last 2 seasons.

6) Philadelphia Eagles – Kyle Pitts TE, Florida 6’6″ 240 lbs
If the Eagles can’t move Ertz then this may not be the pick. Personally, if they can’t move him then maybe just release him because Pitts is going to be a star in the NFL. He’s too fast for LB’s & too big for DB’s to bring down. Has a awesome straight arm to help him pick up yards after catch.

7) Detroit Lions – DeVonta Smith WR/SWR, Alabama 6’1″ 175 lbs
The Lions lost Golladay & Jones to FA so some replacements are needed if newly acquired QB Jared Goff is going to succeed. Smith had 117 receptions (1st FBS), 1786 yards (1st FBS) & 23 touchdowns (2nd FBS). I don’t think I’ve ever seen a player score so many touchdowns without ever being touched. His only drawback is that he wouldn’t
do his measurables at the senior bowl so it’s a possibility he will come in smaller than his listed height & weight but he’s a stick of dynamite ready to go off.

8) Carolina Panthers – Trey Lance QB, North Dakota St. 6’3″ 226 lbs
Teddy Bridgewater is a decent QB but not elite. Lance could sit behind him for a year or 2 then be ready to go. Built like a LB, runs like a RB & has maybe the strongest arm available for this draft. Only played in 1 game in 2020 before the Bison canceled the rest of the slate the season. In 2019 he was the biggest one year wonder in the country. He completed 67% of his passes for 2786 yards, 28 touchdowns & ZERO interceptions.

9) Denver Broncos – Patrick Surtain II CB, Alabama 6’2″ 208 lbs (4.42)
The Broncos recently signed CB Kyle Fuller off FA but they will need someone on the other side besides Darby. He has good speed & agility. Also, has fluid hips that enables him to pick up ball before WR sees it. Can play cover man or zone. Rare freshman DB to see the field under HC Nick Saban. Also has great bloodlines being the son of Patrick Surtain who played 11 years & was a 3 time pro bowler for the Dolphins. He’s the #1 CB on my board & has been all year.

10) Dallas Cowboys – Caleb Farley CB, Virginia Tech 6’2″ 207 lbs
The Cowboys need a running mate for Trevon Diggs. Farley has closed the gap between him & Surtain. Another one year wonder with an injury history. Very talented & athletic CB. Plays WR’s very tight vested & likes to live in WR’s jersey.

11) New York Giants – Gregory Rousseau EDGE, Miami 6’6″ 260 lbs
The G-men recently signed WR Kenny Golladay to a big contract so their biggest need now is on the EDGE. Some scouts are giving out negative reviews on him & think he’s overrated but I’m calling BS. It’s only because he opted out for 2020 & is a one year wonder but what a year it was he collected 54 tackles, 15.5 sacks & 2 forced fumbles. He has an XLNT skill set & is just oozing with upside.

12) San Francisco 49’ers – Alijah Vera-Tucker G/OT, USC 6’4″ 315 lbs
He played OT for the Trojans in 2020 & was just great. Played G the 2 previous seasons & was the best in the nation. Can help the Niners out at 2 positions of need.

13) Los Angeles Chargers – Christian Darrisaw OT, Virginia Tech 6’5″ 314 lbs
The Bolts have recently signed a C & G off FA so all they need is a good OT to retool their offensive line. Had 34 starts at LOT for the Hokies. XLNT in pass protection & can open up nice running lanes for the rush game. The Chargers need a OT to grow with brilliant young QB Justin Herbert & they get that here.

14) Minnesota Vikings – Micah Parsons ILB/OLB, Penn St. 6’3″ 245 lbs
The Vikes may trade or release Anthony Barr so a replacement is needed. I think he’s the best LB prospect to come out in a few years. Opted out for 2020 & seems to have some character issues but the tape doesn’t lie. In 2019 he had 109 tackles. 5 sacks , 4 forced fumbles & 5 passes defended. As a true freshman he produced 83 tackles, 1.5 sacks & 2 forced fumbles. Has a nose for the football & makes timely splash plays for his defense.

15) New England Patriots – Jaylen Waddle SWR/WR/PR, Alabama 5’10” 182 lbs
The Pats along w/ the Jags have been very busy in FA. Here’s a very fast, dangerous & electric player who can take it to the house on any touch from anywhere on the field. The Pats have signed 2 TE’s & a WR but need more help out wide or in the slot. This player is going to make a lot of noise early in his NFL career.

16) Arizona Cardinals – Jaycee Horn CB, South Carolina 6’1″ 205 lbs
The Cards just lost pro bowl CB Patrick Peterson to the Browns in FA so maybe they will need 2 CB’s to replace him. Can play cover man or zone but is more effective in cover man. Has good speed to not allow separation. Good tackler in the open field. Also, has good bloodlines being the son of long time Saints WR Joe Horn a 2 time pro bowler.

17) Las Vegas Raiders – Christian Barmore DT, Alabama 6’4″ 310 lbs
The Raiders are really hurtin’ on the interior of their DL. Their giving up way too many yards on runs up the middle & pretty much had zero pass rush from the interior. In comes Barmore who is the best DL interior pass rusher in the country. His only knock is his rush defense but that was greatly improved in 2020.

18) Miami Dolphins – Najee Harris RB, Alabama 6’2″ 230 lbs
This is the best RB in the country. Has the leg power to just rip LB’s arm tackles & run over & around DB’s. The Dolphins need a 3 down back & they get that here. He’s also an XLNT receiver out of the backfield & is a good blocker for his QB.

19) Washington Football Team – Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah OLB/SS, Notre Dame 6’1″ 219 lbs
The WFT can go in a lot of directions with this selection. They’re awesome on the front of their DL but need an OLB & an ILB plus a Safety & CB on defense. Here’s a very fast sideline to sideline LB who is like a heat seeking missle blazing around the field looking for someone to hit. Pretty good in pass defense also & a decent ball hawk.

20) Chicago Bears – Rashawn Slater G/C, Northwestern 6’4″ 309 lbs
Slater played OT for Northwestern but doesn’t have the length or size to play OT in the NFL. Da Bears need a interior force on their offensive line & he should fill the bill. Also, would be a great local pick.

21) Indianapolis Colts – Samuel Cosmi OT, Texas 6’6″ 314 lbs
With the announcement of OT Anthony Costanzo retiring the Colts select his replacement. Has good length & footwork. Needs to get into a NFL strength & conditioning program so he can beef up & fill out. Also has a nice kick slide. A plus is he can play LOT or ROT & be just as effective.

22) Tennessee Titans – Kadarious Toney WR/SWR/RB/PR, Florida 5’11” 190 lbs (4.39)
The Titans lost WR Corey Davis to FA so they decide to grab an upgrade. Toney is a very fast, elusive & dangerous WR who can take it to the promised land on any touch from anywhere on the field. Can play out wide or in the slot. XLNT on end sweeps & is a big contributor on special teams as a returner.

23) New York Jets (from sea) – Jaelan Phillips EDGE, Miami 6’5″ 266 lbs
Phillips transferred from UCLA & when Rousseau opted out they gave his number to Phillips & he pretty much had the same type of season in 2020 that Rousseau had in 2019. Lightnin’ quick 1st step to get by OT’s before they knew what happened & into the backfield where he can get sacks & tackles for loss. The Jets don’t have much on the EDGE & this will be a big time upgrade.

24) Pittsburgh Steelers – Alex Leatherwood OT/G, Alabama 6’6″ 322 lbs
The Steelers are aging on their offensive line & could use several upgrades. Leatherwood was a 3 year starter for the Tide. XLNT in pass protection & solid in the rush game. Moves his hands & feet very well at the same time to wall of edge rushers. Well coached by HC Nick Saban & his staff in Tuscaloosa.

25) Jacksonville Jaguars (from lar) – Tyson Campbell CB, Georgia 6’2″ 185 lbs (4.35)
HC Urban Meyer could go in a lot of directions with this pick but decide to get last years top pick C.J. Henderson from Florida a good running mate. Campbell is the fastest DB available for this draft. He’s been working out very well at his private workouts & is running in the 4.3’s. Another CB who is good in cover man or zone. Definitely has the speed to not allow separation. Could go earlier.

26) Cleveland Browns – Kwity Paye EDGE, Michigan 6’4″ 277 lbs
The Browns decide to select a partner for Myles Garrett. Possesses an XLNT 1st step that enables him to get into the backfield where he can get sacks, tackles for loss & put heavy pressure on opposing QB’s. Very athletic player with lots of upside.

27) Baltimore Ravens – Rashod Bateman WR, Minnesota 6’2″ 210 lbs (4.39)
The Ravens GM DeCosta decides to get QB Jackson another WR which he truly needs. Another player who has turned into a workout warrior. Is looking very good in his private workouts & has been running in the 4.3’s which is much quicker than his previous times. Has a good route tree & possesses strong hands.

28) New Orleans Saints – Trevon Moehrig SS/FS, TCU 6’2″ 208 lbs
It seems like the Saints always need help in their secondary & this year is no exception. Solid in pass coverage on TE’s & not afraid to come up into the tackle box & lay out some hard sticks. Very good blitzer coming from the secondary. Best Safety available for this draft.

29) Green Bay Packers – Greg Newsome II CB, Northwestern 6’1″ 190 lbs
Best CB out of the Big 10 this year. Good in pass coverage & can play zone or man. Has good speed & is a solid tackler in the open field. Decent ball hawk & should pair well with Jaire Alexander.

30) Buffalo Bills – Jaylen Mayfield OT/G, Michigan 6’5″ 320 lbs
The Bills were able to resign both OT Daryl Williams & G Jon Feliciano. Williams is on a short deal so Mayfield can study behind him for a year then be ready to take over. This gives them quality depth for hot QB Josh Allen. He’s rock solid in pass protection & a bull in the ground game. The Bills have a loaded roster & need some quality depth players that can move into starting roles.

31) Kansas City Chiefs – Azeez Ojulari OLB/EDGE, Georgia 6’3″ 240 lbs
HC Andy Reid & the Chiefs need a OLB who can rush off the edge & be a good tackler. Is a little slight for the EDGE but was the best ER in the SEC in 2020. Can get back into pass coverage on TE’s. Would be an awesome blitzer from the LB position. This player is also very fast for a OLB.

32) Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Daviyon Nixon DT, Iowa 6’3″ 313 lbs
The Bucs will either lose Suh to FA or release him. If they do that they need a replacement they can play next to the monstrous Vita. Is a fierce interior rusher & can stuff the ground game too. A team player & best DT in the Big 10 in 2020.
